Southfour Selects Program Overview

Purpose

The Southfour Selects Program is an Advanced/Division 1 competitive softball program operating under the Southfour Fastpitch Association. While the Selects remain part of Southfour, they will operate as a dedicated competitive program with its own expectations, commitments, and team structure.

As this level of softball is being introduced, the program will initially be offered at the U11 Advanced and U13 Division 1 age groups only.
The purpose of the Southfour Selects is to provide athletes with the opportunity to compete at the highest level offered within the association while focusing on advanced skill development, teamwork, and competitive play.

Program Commitment

The Southfour Selects require a significant commitment from both players and their families.

Participation in the program includes:

• A substantial financial commitment.
• Offseason-long training and practices
• Regular practices and games.
• Frequent tournament participation.
• Travel throughout the season.
• A high level of attendance and dedication.

Because of the demands of the program, the Southfour Selects are best suited for athletes whose primary sport is softball. Families should carefully consider the time commitment before accepting a roster position.

Team Structure

Each Southfour Selects team will have a dedicated leadership group consisting of:

• Head Coach
• Assistant Coach(es)
• Team Manager
• Team Treasurer
• Tournament Coordinator

Each role is essential to the successful operation of the team throughout the season.

Coach Selection

Head Coaches will be appointed through the Southfour Softball Association’s coaching selection process.

Once selected, the Head Coach will:

• Select their Assistant Coach(es).
• Plan and conduct team activities.
• Lead the player evaluation process.
• Select the final team roster following tryouts.

Player Tryouts 

Player selection will take place through a mandatory three-day tryout process September 8th, 9th & 11th 2026.

Players will be evaluated on:

• Hitting
• Fielding
• Throwing
• Speed and athleticism
• Game awareness
• Coachability
• Work ethic
• Competitiveness
• Attitude and sportsmanship

Following the completion of the three-day tryout, the Head Coach will select the final roster.

All roster decisions made by the Head Coach are final.

Teams are expected to begin practicing as a unit and getting to know each other starting in September.

Players who do not make the Selects team are encouraged to still attend spring 2027 evaluations and wait for team placement at that time.

Player Expectations

Players selected to the Southfour Selects are expected to:

• Attend all practices, games, and tournaments whenever possible.
• Demonstrate commitment to the team.
• Display positive sportsmanship and respect.
• Work hard and support their teammates.
• Represent Southfour, their coaches and teammates in a positive and professional manner.

Parent Expectations

Families are expected to support the commitment required by the program by:

• Ensuring players attend team commitments whenever possible.
• Respecting coaching decisions.
• Fulfilling volunteer responsibilities assigned to the team.
• Assisting with fundraising initiatives when required.
• Communicating respectfully with coaches, team staff, and association representatives.

Financial Commitment

The Southfour Selects will require additional fees beyond regular Southfour registration.

Additional expenses may include:

• Tournament entry fees
• Uniforms and team apparel
• Indoor training
• Equipment
• Team activities
• Travel and accommodation expenses

Each team will prepare and communicate a projected budget before the season begins whenever possible.

Program Philosophy

The Southfour Selects are designed for athletes who are motivated to compete at a high level and are prepared to dedicate themselves to the demands of competitive softball.
The program will emphasize player development, accountability, teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, and a commitment to excellence while proudly representing the Southfour Softball Association.
